At the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, you can ask
a park ranger and they will give you a paper
and graphite for you to do a rubbing of a name
from the wall.

The shameless commerce monument.

The ubiquitous marketing monument.

As of June 2005, there is construction going on
around the Washington Monument.  The
monument is still open for visits.  You can
sign up for free tickets to go up the monument
so that you don't have to wait in line forever.

At the Smithsonian Museum of American History,
they were celebrating Flag Day and had a Fife
and Drum Corps playing in front of the 9/11
Pentagon flag.  Previously, the Stars and
Stripes from Fort McHenry (from the War of
1812 that inspired the National Anthem) was
displayed here.

a "Jolly Roger" flying above a construction
company's office?
