During the battle of Gettysburg, someone hauled
off and shot this barn. The barn was not
participating in the battle. It is a sad
example of collateral damage. Fortuantely
the barn's injuries were not life threatening.

If you look in the bottom left corner of this picture
you will see one of the signs with a number telling

This is the little clump of trees that held so
many cannons during the third day of battle.

On the third day of battle, an event called "Pickett's
Charge" occurred on this field. It was a blood
bath. Southern troops walked across this open
wheat field toward entrenched northern troops.
Although the war continued on two years after
Pickett's Charge, many say that this mistake by
the south was what broke the back of the southern
rebellion.
