Around 4:30 we put down our blanket on
the National Mall. We grabbed a center seat.
I tried to wait until people started taking spots
to take ours. I now think we could have
waited another hour or two. These people

A bunch of college aged students took up a lot
of ground in order to throw frisbees, footballs,
and to sun bathe.

The tents you see in the distance are from the
Folk Art festival.

Frisbee throwing on the Mall.

Uncle Sam looks like he needs to take up
jogging.

People playing cards on the Mall.

My wife brought a book to read. So did I. We
also played some cards. We were in direct
summer sunlight for a few hours. SPF45
did its job!

I didn't think there were enough portapotties,
but I never saw any lines. Maybe we sweated
it all out.

The base of the Washington Monument. They
have about finished the construction around it.
