The "henge" part is actually the trench that was
dug around the structures. In this picture
you should be able to see the indentation
of the trench in front of the stones.

This stone, along with its twin which no
longer exists, was one of the "Gate Stones."
People would walk up the trail leading to
Stonehenge and then walk between these two
stones.

You can see how the strong winds have
matted down the grass around the Gate Stone.

The stone that is buried in the ground is
between the "gate stone" and Stonehenge.
This stone is called the "Slaughter Stone," not
because
historians think sacrifices took place
there, but
because of the reddish color of
the stone.
